An Organization is Born!

This week, confirmation has been recieved from the North Carolina Secreary of State that DOCOMOMO US_NC is officially recognized as a charitable corporation. This means, a statewide organization devoted to the study and preservation of modernist architecture has been born!

We are the local chapter of DOCOMOMO US. DOCOMOMO is shorthand for a working party for DOcumentation and COnservation of building sites and neighborhoods of the MOdern MOvement. In other words, DOCOMOMO promotes the study, interpretation and protection of the architecture, landscape and urban design of the Modern Movement. It promotes the exchange of knowledge about this important legacy which extends from the planned city and the iconic monument to the house next door.

DOCOMOMO US_NC is an all-volunteer group comprised of enthusiasts, historians, architects, designers, students, and preservationists. We serve all those interested in design, architecture, urbanism, landscape and history across all of North Carolina From Black Mountain to Soul City, we are interested in collecting information on North Carolina's great modern-era sites and places.
